Ann Cook brings her business focused approach to problem solving and alternative dispute resolution to Phillips ADR. After ten years managing the legal department at Big Four professional services firm, Ernst & Young LLP, including two years as the General Counsel, Ann has experience as both a plaintiff and defendant and understands first-hand the internal and external pressures parties face when bringing, defending and then trying to resolve disputes. Ann has litigated, managed, arbitrated, mediated and negotiated settlements in a wide variety of matters including accounting, securities, contracts and employment. She is a creative problem solver who draws upon her experience in corporate matters and litigation. Ann was a sought-after advisor on the most complex initiatives and transactions, and has a proven track record of achieving results that balance risk with business optimization. She was regularly recognized as a tenacious leader who pursued efficient and effective outcomes.

Ann’s EY experience was second to none. In addition to being the Chief Legal Officer for a firm with $20B in revenues and over 50,000 employees, Ann was responsible for the Americas’ firms’ legal strategy during the consideration of an industry defining transaction that would have resulted in a new public global consulting firm. Ann was responsible for EY’s civil litigation and regulatory dockets during times of unprecedented regulatory activity and routinely was called upon to advise EY on complex public disclosure and bankruptcy issues faced by its more than 1000 public audit clients.

Prior to joining EY Ann was an experienced trial lawyer in the professional liability practice at King & Spalding. Her practice consisted of high profile, high stakes, complex litigation and regulatory matters representing clients in large disputes in both federal and state courts in the US. Her final trial at K&S was a two-month jury trial that concluded with a complete win for her client after only four hours of deliberation.

Ann is an active supporter of the Inner City Scholarship Fund, Lawyers Division. She is regularly asked to speak at seminars and participate in panel discussions on substantive issues in securities and accounting. She has been an advocate for alternative dispute resolution during her entire career. Ann lives on Long Island with her husband and twin teenage daughters. She received her B.A. from Union College, magna cum laude, and J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law with Honors, where she was an editor of the Law Review. In 2020, Hofstra presented Ann with its award for Outstanding Women in Law.
