Area of expertise:
Andra Greene is a member of Phillips ADR’s distinguished panel of neutrals and an experienced mediator of complex, high-stakes disputes. She has mediated or co-mediated matters ranging from seven to 11 figures across a wide spectrum of substantive areas, including mass torts, class actions, securities, employment, allegations of sexual misconduct, privacy, insurance coverage, and intellectual property. She is known for her rigorous preparation, credibility with sophisticated counsel, and ability to navigate emotionally charged and legally complex cases toward resolution.
Before joining Phillips ADR, Andra spent more than 35 years at Irell & Manella LLP, where she led the firm’s Class Action Defense practice and served two terms as Managing Partner of the Newport Beach office. She was also a long-standing member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Her decades as a frontline litigator give her a deep understanding of litigation risk, trial dynamics, and the real-world pressures faced by parties and counsel—experience she now brings to the mediation table.
Throughout her career, Andra handled challenging and complex disputes in state and federal courts, with particular emphasis on class actions and professional liability matters, and frequently represented lawyers and law firms in high-exposure cases. That background informs her approach as a mediator, especially in cases where legal, financial, and reputational stakes intersect.
Andra’s work has been widely recognized. She has been named one of the “Top Women Lawyers in California” by the Daily Journal on five occasions and was honored as Attorney of the Year by the Orange County Women Lawyers Association. She has also been recognized by Best Lawyers in America as Orange County’s “Bet-the-Company Lawyer of the Year,” received the Marcus Kaufman Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League, and was named among the “Top 50 Women Lawyers” nationally by the National Diversity Council.
Andra is a frequent speaker and presenter on mediation, settlement strategy, and complex litigation, and has taught advanced seminars on class actions at UC Irvine School of Law. She has authored numerous articles and co-edited the book, "The Woman Advocate", published by the American Bar Association.
She has long been committed to public service and pro bono work, particularly on behalf of the homeless, and received the ACLU Foundation of Southern California’s Social Justice Award for landmark pro bono advocacy. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Public Law Center and held leadership roles in numerous professional organizations, including the Federal Bar Association and the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section.
Andra graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a degree in Economics and earned her law degree from Harvard Law School. She clerked for the Honorable Catherine B. Kelly of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and began her career at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP before joining Irell & Manella.
Outside her professional work, Andra is a registered yoga instructor, an avid fitness enthusiast, and a supporter of the arts, serving on the Board of Directors of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. She and her husband have four grown children, one granddaughter, and two Siberian Huskies.
