Tom Gregg is a Senior United Nations official with over two decades of operational experience as an international conflict mediator and humanitarian access negotiator, engaging non-state armed groups and sanctioned individuals on behalf of governments, the United Nations and NGOs. He has extensive work experience as a hostage negotiator and has facilitated multiple negotiations on behalf of the U.S. government.

His unique background informs his work as a strategist and he has worked as an adviser to the government of Norway, the World Health Organization, the U.N., and the Gates Foundation. Tom also serves as a member of the President’s Leadership Council at Search for Common Ground, the world’s largest peacebuilding organization, and as a Counsellor to the Melbourne-based boutique political risk firm, Dragoman Global. He was previously Director of Global Projects at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, a Swiss-based international conflict mediation organization and was Associate Director at the Centre on International Cooperation (CIC) at New York University. Before entering the field of international diplomacy, Tom worked as a baker during his college years in Melbourne and Canberra, Australia.

Tom has appeared as a commentator in the media in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the Middle East and has written widely on topics including foreign policy, U.S.-China Relations, and fly fishing in Afghanistan. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Australian National University where he was a Hedley Bull scholar.

Tom is an avid surfer, sailor and swimmer and loves traveling with his wife and writing poetry. He is married with five children and lives in Laguna Beach, California.
